If you want to find a true love, you have to be yourself. I know this sounds obvious and easy, but I don’t think that it is. We are raised in a society where we learn what characteristics are desirable and which are not. Consequently, we try to mould ourselves around that image – as created by society and not by us.
We also try to live by the values and standards of other people – people that we admire or respect. While in many cases, it can be admirable and a good thing to follow the lead of someone we respect, it is not necessarily who we are. We may have personality traits that we don’t like because they are less desirable by society’s or our family’s standards and so we try to suppress those aspects of ourselves. It is this suppression that suppresses our authenticity. If you are going to be yourself, you cannot be half of yourself or most of yourself, you have to be your whole self, or you are trying to be someone else.
As soon as you are trying to be someone else, you are attracting a partner for someone else and the relationship will only succeed as long as you are happy to continue the façade.
You, as a whole person, good and bad, are lovable. Accept it, get used to it and then hold on, because here comes real love…
